After a while you’ll see that I frequent the same places fairly often and wonder how I can eat the same things all of the time.
I just moved to the NYC area recently, however, so if you have any recommendations for specific places in or around NYC, please put them down in the comment section. It’s okay if you’re just weird and want to see pictures of specifics foods too. Just make sure I’ll think it’s delicious and put it in the comment section as well.
Thanks!
I like the focus on dollars spent, but it would be interesting (although more time consuming) to pair this with caloric information and your body fat changes.
Of course this is the personal training side of me speaking here.

I think doing “themes” will be very interesting but also just another form of torture for you.
Try the Porter House on N. Kinderkamack Road. They have a three onion soup gratinee.

Mantra in Paramus, NJ, has a very nice Indian lunch buffet (http://www.mantranj.com/home.html).
I like Peppercorns right near your office park for “casual” food. (My first job was at a company that used to be at 12 Mercedes Drive; it’s now the police station/library, I believe.)
Casa del Sol in Woodcliff Lake used to make excellent sandwiches (http://www.casadelsole.biz/).
I could go on and on…
come to California!
“Palisade park bakery” On the corner of Broad st and Central, right next to palisade park police station.Try the danish ring with cream in the middle and apple turnover
tell me they are better than one of your usual bakerys’. They don’t have green tea cake though.

Green Door Cafe is a new comer, located in the same space as the old Blockheads Burritos. Former Blockheads owner Leon Bell, liked Tenafly so much that he decided to stay. Together with his new partner, Executive Chef John Marsh, Bell has created a menu that provides diners with exceptional organic American Cuisine. You can taste the difference!
Green Door Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and Dinner
Try Chef Marsh’s signature salads, sandwhiches and original dinner entrees. The kids will love the burgers (beef and turkey), housemade fries, as well as the housemade mac and cheese.

Prior to the economy sinking like a stone, my hubby and I used to eat out quite a bit (now we cook).
Here are a few Bergen County and NYC recommendations on places that stick out the most. We live in Paramus and it seems like we are in the same stomping grounds.
Penang–Lodi, NJ–great Thai food! and pretty cheap-excellent bar too (not so cheap w/ multiple drinks are consumed)
The Crow’s Nest– Hackensack , NJ–good, solid, hearty, comfort food, they even have a comfort food menu! I don’t recommend their meat loaf though.
Sol De Caribe–Lodi, NJ–excellent Spanish food, only about 8 tables, BYOB. The Pernil (roast pork) is the best I’ve tasted, but it’s only on the menu about 3 times a week.
La Tour–Ridgewood NJ–French food- a little pricey, but they have a tasting menu that is spectacular! foie gras is A+ (guys-jackets needed)
Dim Sum Dynasty-Ridgewood NJ-BYOB- VERY nice dumplings, love the sesame balls w/ that are served for desert. There is a great Sushi place almost directly next door, but I forget the name.
Rosa Mexicana- Hackensack NJ-Yeah it’s a chain, but it’s great food! I love the guacamole and the braised short ribs are my favorite on the menu.
Good eating!
Since you’re usually eating somewhere in between Montvale and Jersey City, I’d be interested in your opinion of this “healthy” Korean restaurant in Tenafly.
Sanmaroo

I’ve been there twice….love their bibimbap!
Thanks.
you should try sushi california in englewood nj everything is awesome and the waiter is so nice!
Daruma sushi in Englewood NJ is the best. try the “Englewood” roll.
Hey I don’t have a recommendation, more like a question. I work in Fort Lee and I want sushi for lunch…in your opinion, what is the best sushi in the area since it seems like you ate everywhere around here…
No more blogging what you eat?
Have you tried Minado in Little Ferry off of 46…..
I used to live in Jersey City before I moved back to Alaska… I remember there was this wonderful restaurant called Papillon. I’ve never had such wonderful food before – and the setting was so quaint yet exquisite – it seemed like it was just inside someone’s house. And the house was surrounded by other houses, just a regular neighborhood and really comfy. Anyway, I think it’s in Nutley. I’d be curious to know if it’s still around and if their fried calamari and creme brulee are still as awesome.

After all this time, I can’t believe you haven’t blogged about Taqueria Downtown in Jersey City, NJ. Their steak tacos are my favorite and they only serve soft shell tacos, not hard shells. It’s just the way I like it at Taqueria Downtown in Jersey City, NJ. Also make sure you get the grapefruit soda when you go to the Taqueria Downtown in Jersey City, NJ.
If you like Reubens, you need to check out Artie’s Deli- 83rd and Broadway.
I love Edgar’s Cafe- 84th between Broadway and West End Ave.
I’ll be back…so many fab places!
Freeze-dried Fruit in snack packages-what could be better. 100%fruit crunchy and sweet.
I think I saw that you weren’t very familiar with the Edgewater area so here’s a couple of spots that I find to be a good local joint.
There’s an excellent Mexican restaurant on Route 5 called Salsa. It is a small hole in the wall that makes their fresh beans, guacamole, and salsa. I absolutely loved their chicken quesadilla, I’m sure everything else there is good.
Brother’s Pizzeria is across the Whole Foods in a little strip mall has excellent Penne a la vodka (hope you like peas), zitti, and cheesesteak are all good. There pizza is decent.
Brooklyn Pizzeria in Edgewater Commons has pretty good Brooklyn style pizza for a place in Jersey. I’ve had most of the good pizza places from Brooklyn and Manhattan and they’re decent.
Pizza Gallery is also across the movie theater, near Sangria has pretty gigantic house pizzas. They have a good penna a la vodka and zitti.
Another random recommendation is going to the Houlihans on Route 4. I don’t know if you like mushrooms but their stuffed mushroom appetizer is amazing.
Hope to see some reviews of these places. I’ll keep looking.
New burger place for you to check out, if you haven’t already: Five Napkin Burger.
Also, you might be interested in this: Iate.com.
There’s a yummy dessert place called Red Spoon in Fort Lee on Lemoine Ave. You should get their waffle with a scoop of gelato on top. ^^
Also stop at Vespa’s in Edgewater. They have delicious Italian food!
Stumbled across your blog from Robyn’s. And then I noticed a mutual FB friend but that’s neither here nor there. Anyway!
Lunch recommendation: the Tavern Room at Gramercy Tavern. It’s walk-in only but the (somewhat secret!) soup-and-sandwich deal is absolutely worth it.
