Dinner

Les Halles (New York, NY) – $45.00

We weren’t quite sure what to get for dinner before Julie’s “I’m moving out of NYC and going back down to South Jersey” party, so Paul recommended Les Halles.  I had never been there before, but I’m pretty sure Eric, Yin, and Paul had each been there a few times.  Anyway, I apologize in advance for the terrible quality of the photos.  The lighting there wasn’t quite the best for iPhone cameras, and yes, Yin, I know I should just buy that Casio.

To the food… The food there was quite good, and I now know why Paul recommended it.  Yin and I decided to split the prime rib for two meal there and we each got a bowl of the French onion soup.

The soup had a fairly distinct taste to it.  We couldn’t really pin it down while we were there, but I’m pretty sure they used a different kind of cheese than is normally used.  What I’m trying to say is that I really love French onion soup and I try to get it when I can, so whatever they did at Les Halles was a nice change of pace and you should try it.

The best thing about this restaurant, however, is that they actually know how to cook the meat the way that you ask them.  I usually find that when you order steak or prime rib as medium-rare, they just kinda make it medium with a little pink inside.  The picture below of the prime rib doesn’t really do it justice.  We ordered the meat medium-rare and they actually gave it to us that way, which was a happy unexpected surprise.

To sum it up… based on the quality and quantity of the food that we had, I think Les Halles is reasonably priced and a really good place to go in NYC.
