WARNING: What you are about to see may be shocking if you’ve lived a sheltered culinary life. Not to be outdone by Matt’s display of fresh seafood, we bought fresh whole flatfish from the grocery store and steamed it with some ginger, scallions, soy sauce, and cooking wine. Fresh whole fish tastes nothing like a fillets you would get at an American supermarket. The skin keeps the insides tender and juicy and tastes delicious by itself as well. The only annoyance is avoiding the bones and if you are daring enough the head is the juiciest part.

Cleaning out the innards

Scallions and ginger for the sauce

Final product – DELICIOUS.

If those images have been disturbing to you, here’s a picture of some oatmeal walnut chocolate chip cookies next to a hair dryer from the 1980s.

By the time you see these cookies on an Ikea plate, all will feel right in the world again.

Mmm… steamed fish with ginger, onion, soy sauce, and cooked oil is extremely yummy. It’s the best way to eat fresh fish in my opinion.
