Given the fact that so many second-rate Chinese take-out places exist here in America, I always find it quite refreshing to find a Chinese restaurant in the area that so obviously takes great pride in their food, while also managing to be reasonably priced and delicious.
For some reason I feel like making a bulleted list today, so here we go:
- I love the fact that the owner responds to every comment on their website from eaters. As someone who eats out every meal, I wish every restaurant owner cared that much. I think that the honesty of the owner, John, shown here is amazing.
- It’s a Chinese restaurant always filled with a lot of Chinese people. I apply the same logic when looking for a good Korean restaurant. Find the one with the most Koreans in it because it must be good, right? Be honest, you do the same thing.
- You can ask Eric – I seriously did not believe that the Roast Duck Noodle Soup on the menu was a complete meal for only $5.50 at dinner time. Probably the greatest five dollar meal ever. Sorry Ikea.
- I love scallion pancakes. Eric makes fun of me because I used to call it Chinese pizza, but that is what was on the menu at all the Chinese restaurants where I grew up. Anyone else here call it Chinese pizza? Anyone? Bueller?
- As you can tell from my other post with noodle soup, I am partial to ordering it with Roast Duck. The duck at Grand Sichuan was good, but it actually seemed to be a little more bony than at Mohegan Sun. It didn’t really take away from the taste of the soup as a whole, but it just made it a little harder to eat.
- I think that one day we might have to set up an all day eating contest and video tape it for the blog. Petite Soo Chow VS Grand Sichuan. Who is with me?
- Stop reading this long list and go eat at Grand Sichuan already. And take me with you if you are trying one of them in NYC please.

Hahaha, there are so many Koreans here that the Chinese place down the street from me has three menus:
The White Person menu
The Chinese menu
The menu that is “suitable for Korean tastes”
and which menu do you order from?
Oh wow, tasty and cheap. -Nom nom-
Scallion pancake is what I call it. Roast duck noodle soup is always good.
All day eating contest?
I am so down for that. It would be the gastronomic Olympics!
It must be a Medford thing cause i always called it Chinese Pizza
