I don’t know about you, but when it’s been snowing all day I usually want to get something warm and stewy (? that’s not a word, but it should be) to eat for dinner. So when Rosanna asked me if I was doing anything for dinner tonight, I immediately thought I could find something good to fulfill my need (soon dubu, kimchi jjigae, or something like that) at a Korean restaurant.
I always drive by Dok Ka Bi in Leonia and it’s packed with Koreans, so I recommended that we go there to try it out. Luckily for us the weather kept some people home, and we didn’t have to wait to get a table. I should probably warn Korean n00bs, this place does not cater well to those who speak English as a native language. I looked around and didn’t see any menus in English, so if you can’t read Korean and you don’t know what you want, I think you might have some problems. Rosanna and I are fairly weak Koreans, but we were able to slowly read off the names of the dishes on the menu and know what the foods were. Rosanna seemed proud of herself and just kept reading off names of things on the menu, even after she decided what she wanted. She reads this blog (::hello::) and will probably try to deny this, but I would never lie to you, my dear blog readers.
Anyway, I was talking on the phone to Hana before I went in the restaurant, and she told me that the name of the restaurant means monster, which explains the cool little dude on the chopstick wrapper. Whoever drew that should be given a raise.
The food there was good, so I understand why it’s always so crowded. Rosanna and I both agreed that the kimchi there was very good, and we ate two dishes of it. My soon dubu was quite tasty as well. Better than average and way better than the soon dubu at that place in Ridgewood. I still think So Kong Dong is the best in the area though.
I plan on going there again sometime soon, but next time I think I might bring Young just to be safe. Either that, or I have to start making some new Korean friends around this area.
Here’s the menu if you are interested.

Thanks for sharing a menu that I can’t READ. Yeah, that was really helpful. Haha.
oh… open your eyes.
Noobie poster here.
That place is really good. I really enjoyed their ramen dduk bok kki. Hmmm…I thought they had an English menu if you asked for one. Don’t quote me on that. Since you eat in the area often, I suggest you try Godori in Pal Park. Everything on their menu is yum yum good.
I second Lea, Godori is awesome. Very fresh fish, if you’re into that.
Their gae-ran jjim (steamed egg) is awesome too!
Mmmm, I need to try Korean food.
