This has been quite an interesting and fun weekend. Thank you to everyone who came to softball yesterday, though I think I enjoyed myself too much.
I have two objectives with this blog post. The first is obviously to talk about my meal at Mama Mexico in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. The second is to make an announcement that should be news to everyone who doesn’t read my twitter. (btw you should all be refreshing my twitter every 5 minutes)
Okay, Mama Mexico… my meal at Mama Mexico was pretty much how I thought it would be. Above average Mexican food with a somewhat noisy atmosphere and delicious guacamole. Even though my Crepas de Filet Mignon looks just like a pile of cheese on top of some beans, I hope you can believe me when I say that it tasted a lot better than it looks. The guacamole was made at our table and was better than most places. It was a little disappointing because it was supposed to be spicy but tasted more mild than the salsa. I felt kinda bad for the couple at the table next to us. You could tell that they were on a date and that they were both uncomfortable. I think at most I heard them exchange like 10 words about the taste of the food. The rest of the time they were just eating, drinking, or talking to the wait staff. I hope that I’m not like that on dates. Awkward moment of silence. Anyway, if Mama Mexico was in school, it’d definitely get a B+.
On to the announcement… I’m not sure why I did what I did, but I did it. On twitter of all places, I challenged the guys at the website Epic Portions to a White Castle Crave Case eating contest. The event will be held on June 27th. It sounds like it will be a 2 on 2 eating contest (Paul is my partner) and that the first team to finish a 30 pack of sliders (a Crave Case) from White Castle wins. We’re still working out the logistics, but it sounds like we’re going to be watching each other via webcam and video taping it at the same time. Does anyone out there know how we can share our webcam stream of the contest to other people? Don’t worry. If we can’t figure it out, we’ll definitely post up the video on our sites the next day. So place your bets… iblogwhatieat Vs Epic Portions.

guacamole either makes or breaks a meal but it’s hard to find a really bad one. man that filet looks so good.
A slider-eating contest? Ooh…I am intrigued!
I went to the Mama Mexico on the Upper West Side before they opened up their Englewood Cliffs location. Your description of above-average Mexican food and noisy atmosphere applies to that one too. For guacamole and drinks, you might want to try Rosa Mexicana — another NYC chain that recently opened up an outpost in NJ. We had the Sangria Brilliante (SP?) there Friday night. Refreshing and not too sweet: it’s made with cava (Spanish sparkling wine), so it’s leavened with a little carbonation.
I don’t know what you’re talking about, but awkward moments of silences are the best. You can stare into their eyes <3.
I am going to try and eat an entire crave case by myself before this contest to gauge my performance. I’ll let you know how it goes..
hahaha that is both hilarious and disgusting.
The thought of a crave case is making my stomach turn.
As I chow down on my third burger.
Look forward to the the White Castle Battle. Why someone would stuff their face like that is beyond my comprehension, but good luck to you Matt!!
I was not impressed with Mama Mexico…the food was average at best and over-priced. But I’m biased cause I grew up eating REAL mexican in SoCal.
I’m lovin’ the WC eating contest. Coincidentally, my friends and I were planning on doing this too. Yes it’s disgusting and we are gluttons. But it never came to fruition. Thank god. But good luck to ya.
that philly burger looked INSANELY GOOD! I didn’t see the filet anywhere on this post though? i don’t believe it was underneath that plantain thing.
yea i’m so rooting for your team!!! white castle battle, woot!!!
Oh no you are on twitter too now! eek! lol Last time I checked, this was the post too. The food looks good, but kind of pricey @_@ but I am glad you enjoyed it. ^_^
I am totally enept when it comes to Twitter…my husband is annoyed with all my questions because I just don’t “get” it! I would love to hear about your food adventures though so I will try to figure it out!
That guac sounds awesome, I’ve never had it made at the table before!
The food looks sooo good i wish i lived in NJ
why havnt you blogged for like a month
That is mouthwatering…yumm!!
hmm.. was it delicious??
Take your blog down already – it’s obvious you went the way of all the other wayward bloggers, to blog-hell! Let us mourn, and move on.
Maybe we should cut him some slack…
… or not.
RIP blog.
