Everyone is asleep now, so I’ll try to use this quiet time to write a little better post than last time.
As I mentioned earlier, I made this trip so that I could meet my birth father for the first time. I kinda made the decision to go as early as possible based upon the fact that I’d regret it if something happened and I missed my chance. Anyway, my sister wrote me an e-mail before my plane left JFK to tell me that she gathered the children at our parent’s house and told our father that I exist. That sure didn’t make me feel anxious or anything…
The meeting itself went as well as I think it could have. Luckily my friend Daniel was able to come last night and help translate. I think everything would have been 9 gazillion times more awkward if we didn’t have him there. Kinda like tonight when I was introduced to my grandmother, and we didn’t have someone to translate. What’s that you say… You want me to do a traditional Korean bow to her? What?!? I knew I should have paid more attention to those Korean dramas!! She was a cool and happy woman though. She just kept smiling and giggling at me during dinner, so that worked itself out.
I think I could write a lot more, but I’m starting to think that this blog really isn’t the place to do it. Right? It’s a food blog after all. You guys care more about the food, not the eater.
I’ll just sum it all up now by saying… I’m not sure how all of these relationships will turn out in the end, especially with my birth parents. Am I glad that I came though? To quote Sarah Palin, “You betcha.”
Now get ready to watch the cutest video ever and look at some delicious food.
^^

I see your new white shoes.
MATT I think your Korean family enjoys your presence judging by these pictures and that giant bowl of noodles. That has to be the most amazing thing in the world and they ordered it for you!.
P.S. Please bring one of those giant noodle bowls back for us.
Those gigantic shellfish looks so good. Mmmm…. seafood at it’s finest. I bet you are going to be spoiled by all the authentic Korean food in Korea and when you come back, the Korean food here will pale in comparison.
I love that you share your story about you and your family with us. It’s great to know more about the blogger behind the blog. =) Enjoy yourself with your family. Those kiddies are adorable. ^_^

I finally watched the video and it is adorable. The food looks crazy (and tasty) and I enjoy hearing stories about your family there as well.
However, I have one gripe. How are you honestly quoting Sarah Palin?!
Hey brother, i miss you. I’m very proud of you. I want to know more about the eater!!!
Looking at those pictures really made me smile, remember we used to do peace signs like crazy in all our kids pics and videos. Love you Matt, be safe.

Sounds like you are having an amazing trip! Family is a wonderful thing, so it’s awesome you belong to two. It’s definitely admirable that you made the trip to meet them. Those kids are adorable and so is your grandma.
PS- I was eating sushi and the wasabi I put on top looked like a little ninja. I know not many people would appreciate this, but I think I’ll send you the picture. lol
Awh, I love the family picture!
And your niece is so adorable. So cute to see that your nephew pulled out the asian peace sign too! He’s my hero.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences! Looking at pictures of the food served is one thing but knowing the story and circumstances around it is what gives it meaning.
